About Event

In the face of next-tier threats,
businesses must step up their game and LEVEL UP

Enterprises and organisations are facing next-tier, multifaceted threats that are both familiar and uncharted. As the cloud and the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem become more interconnected, it is essential for organisations to re-evaluate and redefine their understanding of threats, risks, and solutions in an ever-changing landscape. With that, organisations and enterprises must ask: what threats should they prepare for? What risks are involved? What processes and procedures should be implemented?

CLOUDSEC Events are one of the largest internet security conferences held across Europe & Asia Pacific. These events are vendor-neutral and feature presentations by industry experts who address a wide spectrum of real-world challenges and current strategies in internet security today. These events are hosted by Trend Micro and supported by industry leaders, government agencies, commercial organisations, professional associations, technology vendors, and cyber security professionals from around the world.

“Secret Law and How the Feds Regulate Cybersecurity"

While the FTC, FCC and Homeland Security joust over who is going to regulate the internet, Michael J. Daugherty, LSA '82, will rivet you regarding his blood in the water battle with the Federal Trade Commission over their relentless investigation into his LabMD's data security practices. It’s human nature to root for the underdog, but in real life, the little guy tends to lose big fights. Daugherty is flipping that paradigm on its head.
This is an insider's look at how agencies exploit their power by bullying the small and weak to control the private sector. It's their playbook.
You will hear about Mike's shrewd investigation of the investigator (FTC), which, after publication, resulted in a House Oversight investigation, a stinging Congressional report about the FTC's behaviour, and criminal immunity from the Justice Department for a whistleblower. Chairman ISSA released his bombshell report May 12, 2015. Mike then scored a stunning victory over the government in November, 2015. In August, 2016, the agency overturned, and in November, 2016, 11th Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the case to hear an appeal, making this case destined for the Supreme Court. Learn how Mike exposed real time manoeuvres of government lawyers who are accustomed to no one looking.
Because of his work, Mike has testified before the House of Representatives House Oversight Committee and regularly keynotes in front of healthcare, law, business and technology audiences educating them on what to expect when the Federal Government investigates you.
Michael J Daugherty is Founder, President & CEO of LabMD, a cancer detection laboratory based in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the author of the book The Devil Inside the Beltway, The Shocking Expose of the US Government's Surveillance and Overreach into Cybersecurity, Medicine and Small Business.
He holds a BA in Economics from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, regularly blogs at MichaelJDaugherty.com and sits on the board of Snoopwall, a cyber privacy company based in Nashua, New Hampshire, and writes for Cyber Defence Magazine He is a private pilot and resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
